Suns add Jeremy Hazell aka Cab Driver to 2011 training camp

The Phoenix Suns added Showboat Classic Basketball Alumni (guard)  Jeremy Hazell to the team’s training camp roster, the club has announced.

The Suns’ 2011 training camp began Saturday, Dec. 10, at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.

Hazell is a 6-5, 180-pound rookie guard who was a four-year standout at Seton Hall University. Hazell averaged 19.8 points as a senior in 2010-11, and became just the third player in school history to reach 2,000 career points. A Third Team All-Big East selection, Hazell played briefly this season with Lucentum Alicante in Spain.

Congrats to Jeremy for continuing to make his dream a reality!

SBC Champs Edition 2011-Part 3 (The shot)

Rashawn Johnson (SBC Titans, 16 & Under division) Explains how he accidentally shot the ball in the wrong basket with two seconds left in a championship game his team was winning. SBC Titans vs Tafari All-Stars.  Rashawn explains, “I figured we had it won”, & “The defense was positioned as if we were under our own basket” While most people would’ve run off with their tail between their legs, Rashawn wasn’t afraid to have a sense of humor abut the mishap. He jokingly took photos with the winning team as per their request.

This year Rashawn also played in the College Freshmen division for the Champion “Harlem Wolfpac” team. He’s played in the Showboat Classic for the past eight 8 years.

Interviews with coach Coach Sean & Jamal Ferguson aka C. Bear

Coach Sean started playing in the Showboat in 1998 when the tournament was a one day event. He won a Chip as a player then returned as a coach winning six (6) Championships. In the 2012 season he plans to coach a team in all four divisions. Sean: “We’re going to win next year in every division”. “Wolfpac, Our name rings bells”

Jamal Ferguson has been playing with Showboat for eight (8) seasons and has improved every year. In 2010 he averaged 20 points a game in the unlimited division and was crowned MVP  in the 2011 College Freshmen division.  Coach Sean explains “He’s not going to try and shake you, He’ll straight up face you up, triple threat and go right to the basket”  Jamal will be attending USC (University of South Carolina) January 2012

Crazy: SBC Titans vs Tafari All-Stars Championship game

The Showboat Classic Basketball 16 & Under division championship game was hands down the craziest game of the 2011 season.. The defending championship (16 & Under division) SBC Titans were expected to have an easy win over the Tafari All-Stars. It was pretty close the entire game but the Titans managed to maintain a two point lead most of the way. Then with the Titans up by two points with two seconds left inbounding in Tafari territory, A Titan accidentally shoots the ball in the Tafari All-Stars basket, generously giving them two points and sending the game in to overtime. The fifth quarter was a repeat of the first with the Titans managing a slight lead. It looked like the chip was theirs for the taking; However with the Tafari All-Stars down by two again and with two seconds on the clock (again) the The All-Stars inbound to Ivan Morales who took a half court hail mary shot hitting nothing but net giving the Tafari All-Stars the win by one point! It’s a must see highlight reel

Who will be Champion? Total Control vs. Queens Runners

After an intense season the Queens Runners will meet Total Control in Showboat Classic 2011 finals

Queens Runners vs. Total Control

The Runners feature such talents as Jet blue, Count da basket & Mr.DJ 
who holds SBC record 59pts  (see video Sbc vs Troy http://pdashmedia.com/?p=235)
along with an outstanding young point guard known as the Protege.The Runners
have been doing just that running & gunning their way to an SBC title game.
Although Mr. DJ is considered instant offense. Jet blue provides the defense and
they depend on that defense for transition baskets off steals and block shots.
But being short of talent was never there weakness.
Reports have it they have a tendency to fall apart during big games. (see 1st rd exit last 5yrs)
but having survived the 1st round this yr may be a sign of things changing

Standing in there way is Team Total Control led by Boomy and La Machina.
(Both have won SBC championships)  along with Jump shot Jay have formed a
backcourt trio that has become a nightmare for opposing guards, with
support from the Green Mile, Prada Boy and a host of other role players Total
Control is this years fan favorites with very few weaknesses.
Reports have it La machina is basically unstoppable in the open court but tends
to dominate the basketball causing his team to stand around and watch. and Jay
can sometimes be a liability on defense based on match ups. but they have two of the
best guards in the SBC who thrive in big games.
